I would say take the first 5 levels ranger. Then take either two levels of druid or three of rogue. Scout and assassin would work well for your concept. I would say wield a longsword and shield, or a greatsword/axe as the horizon walker is about one powerful attack. If you weren't being melee, you could take a longbow and focus on that. 1: Losing out on Detect Portal. It was a really nice ribbon feature that helped the non-combat side of the ranger really well by giving them a way to track new things. 2: Ethereal Step giving you a combat buff like Blink instead of a Mobility buff like Etherealness is mildly disappointing. Rest of party is a human light cleric, half elf rogue, dragonborn fighter, kalashtar warlock, and human monk. Ranged with sharpshooter is optimal. But you took mobile and are planning to play horizon walker so I'd stick with the highly mobile melee style. You could run in with the monk and eliminate backline casters/archers together.Mobile will be almost completely redundant , and inferior, to the level 11 Horizon Walker Feature: Distant Strike. So I probably wouldn’t use a feat on that, unless you grab it early can swap it out later when you get that feature. Piercer is fine. One of the few ways you can increase damage with a rapier using a feat.Horizon Walker more than any other Ranger is what makes me lament the loss of Shield on Forge Cleric; it'd have been an excellent boon to this build. Any type of Wizard would give you access to stuff like Shield and Find Familiar, as well as Arcane Recovery to stretch out your low level spell slot stamina throughout an adventuring day.
